COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE

COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE — Robin Ray (left) of Samburg and Kevin Davis of Union City, Ind., on Sunday afternoon leaned on what is left of the frame of the trailer Ray and his mother, Dorothy Bingham, were in when a tornado hit Samburg Friday night. Davis said Ms. Bingham is his aunt and helped raise him. The tornado flipped the trailer, which was facing Griffin Street, and wrapped it around a tree in the middle of the debris. They said Ms. Bingham was ripped from Ray’s grasp and thrown at the base of the tree, where she was found alive but covered in rubble, while he fell backwards into what was left of the trailer. He said the last thing he saw as he was pulled backwards was the tree. He thought he was gone. When rescue workers found him, he was wrapped in electrical wiring and had deep gouges in his arms where nails dug into his skin.
