Rodger Russell

Mr. Rodger Lee Russell, 69, a resident of the Crystal community, died July 22, 2021, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Olive Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Carr officiated.
Pallbearers were Roger Williams, David Williams, Dickie McGee, Freddie Preuett, Randy Roney, Tony Duncan and Greg White. Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Jimerson, Jerry Calhoun, David Russell, Jimmy Barnes, Chad Jimerson, Perry Jo Williams, Jamie Cochran, Gary Byrd, Gene Cole and Jim Nohsey.
Mr. Russell was born on Nov. 16, 1951, in Corinth, Miss., son of the late Charles and Jane (Barnes) Russell.
He joined the National Guard for six years and worked as a stocker for E.W. James for many years. Mr. Russell retired from Williams Sausage. He attended Dixie school, and in 1969 he was in the Top 10 of his class at Obion County Central High School. Mr. Russell had several Letters to the Editor in USA Today, Sports Illustrated, Commercial Appeal, The Union City Daily Messenger and many more publications.
He is survived by two brothers, Daniel (Cindy) Russell of the Crystal community and Kyle (Becky) Russell of Troy; three nieces, Nicki (James) Festervand of Murfreesboro, Amanda (Chad) Jimerson of Martin and Lindsey (Terry) Pullen of Jackson; nephew, Justin (Ashlee) Russell of Union City; three great-nieces, Samantha Festervand and Stella Festervand, both of Murfreesboro, and Isabella Jimerson of Martin; three great-nephews, James Ryan Festervand of Murfreesboro, Zack Jimerson of Martin and Wesley Russell of Union City; and his constant four-legged companion, Chi-Chi.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Franklin Russell.
