FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2021 – DRESDEN, TENN. – Effective 11:59 PM on Saturday, February 27, 2021, Weakley County citizens, residents, and visitors will be required to continue the wearing of a mask or face covering in public places. The extension comes as the number of active cases continue to decline in Weakley County. With the case count decreasing and the number of vaccinations administered on the rise, it is important to remain vigilant to adhering to safety measures for protecting Weakley Countians from COVID-19 transmission.

On February 26, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed Executive Order 77, an order to facilitate the continued response to COVID-19 by extending Executive Order No. 73, as amended. The order and referenced orders therein grant county mayors in 89 counties the authority to issue local requirements for citizens to wear face coverings in public places in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 cases. While not implementing any mass or blanket face covering requirements, Governor Lee continues to encourage every Tennessean to use a face covering or mask, practice social distancing, and utilize hygienic safety measures.

County Mayor Jake Bynum said, “We aren’t out of the woods yet. It is tempting to let down our guard when the numbers trend in the right direction, but we’ve learned that we must be dedicated to remaining mindful of how easy it is to transmit COVID-19. In commitment to the safety of all, wearing a mask or face covering is still the right thing to do.”

Attached is the Executive Order of Weakley County, granted by the authority of the Governor of the State of Tennessee, hereby enacted and requiring citizens in Weakley County, Tennessee, to wear masks or face coverings when in public places and where social distancing is not possible, with an effective date of 11:59 PM on February 27, 2021, and is set to expire at 11:59 PM on April 28, 2021.
