SCHOOL YEAR BEGINS
SCHOOL YEAR BEGINS — Because of the coronavirus pandemic, school children will find things a bit different this year. Some may be going to their school building only part of the time and some may not go at all. Parents and guardians still need to work to provide for their families, so the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Tennessee-Union City unit has decided to help. Starting today, the Boys & Girls Club will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday to assist students with distance learning and until 5 p.m. for after-school care for ages 5-18. Fees to attend will be $45 for ages 5-12 or $80 per family and $25 for ages 13-18. Tutors, laptops and tablets will be utilized to assist with virtual learning. Laney Rogers from the Union City School System will also be available there to help students with distance learning from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Breakfast and lunch will be provided by UC Schools and dinner by Trudy’s Kids Cafe for those attending. This morning, the Boys & Girls Club had children who will be attending school but were on a staggered scheduled this week. Among those getting a jump-start on using the laptops at the club were (front, from left) Ta’Sya McFall, Meliahya Morrow, (back) Amiya Robinson, staff member Hannah Cavness, Adaiyshia Snow and Jamari Cox.
