Joe Byrd

Joe Latham Byrd, 77, of Samburg died Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, at the VA Medical Center in Memphis.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in Cobbs Chapel Cemetery near Hornbeak, with Leonard York officiating. Army burial detail Military Honors will follow.
Visitation will be from noon until 1:30 p.m. Saturday at White-Ranson Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Russell Downing, Kyle Berry, Drew Crews, Zach Crews, Gauge Downing and Ryan Robertson.

He was born on March 15, 1941, in Lexington, Miss., son of the late Oakley Moton and Clara Maude (Jordon) Byrd. He married Norma Louise Crews (Gantlett) of Samburg on April 10, 1972. She survives.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and owner/operator of Byrd’s One Stop in Samburg from 1979 through 1983. He was also self-employed maintaining rental property. He was a member of  Lakeview Church of Christ and did volunteer work in the Northwest Tennessee Correctional Complex Prison Ministry in Lake County for several years.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Cheryl (Randy) Burrows of Ravenswood, W.Va.; two sons, Stephen Walls of Samburg and Andy (Kim) Crews of Hornbeak; two sisters, Freddie Farmer of West, Miss., and Sherry McClellan of Jackson, Miss.; a brother, Sam Byrd of Cleveland, Miss.; seven grandchildren, Christa Conn of Union City, Chayra Watkins of Ravenswood, Alyssa Robertson of Horn-beak, Drew Crews of Jackson, Zach Crews of Troy, Russell Downing of Holiday, and Kyle Berry of Chattanooga; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lana Jo Berry; four sisters, Frances Wynne, Dot Bunch, Alice Rainer and Geneva Byrd; three brothers, Tucker Byrd, Tony Byrd and Bob Byrd;  an infant sister; and an infant brother.
