Mary Hill

Mary Keathley Jordan Hill, 93, of Rives went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, following an extended illness. She had been a resident at Obion County Nursing Home.
A celebration of life will be held at White-Ranson Funeral Home in Union City at 2 p.m. Saturday, with Bros. Jimmy Brown and David Hagan officiating and burial to follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church No. 2 cemetery. Friends may call at White-Ranson on Friday, April 14, from 5-8 p.m.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Chris Pate, Chaco Hill, Courtney Hill, Ryan Hill, Jason Hill, Brian Laster, Daniel Hill, Matt Hill, Jeremy Hill, Eric Hill and Gentry Hill.
Born in rural Lake County on March 7,1924, the daughter of Marie Leola Keathley Jordan and Harry Herman Jordan, Mary was the fourth of sixteen children, ten of whom died in infancy or early childhood. She married Edward Bride “Buddy” Hill on March 6, 1949, in Corinth, Mississippi, and remained his faithful and loving wife until his passing in September 1991.
Mary was a homemaker most of her life and was affectionately known by family and friends alike as Mama Hill, a name she acquired from the area children she baby-sat after her own children started to school. She also worked for several years at the former Obion County General Hospital in food services. Mary was a longtime member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church No. 2 and lived in Rives most of her adult life.
Mary leaves behind quite a family legacy with six children and their spouses, Kathy and Glenn Pate of Rives, Danny and Suzanne Hill, also of Rives, Johnny and Barbara Hill of Martin, Gerald and Jody Hill of Union City, Steven and Janet Hill of Cordova, and Lisa and Noah Vancleave of Murfreesboro. She is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren, Chris Pate and Nancy Pate of Jackson, Dana Hagan of Union City, Courtney Hill of Herrin, IL, Ryan Hill of Germantown, Crissy Jenkins of Auburn, AL, Chaco Hill of Union City, Jeremy Hill, Eric Hill, and Gentry Hill of Henderson, Amy Gallimore of Dresden, Lori Merrick of Princeton, KY, Jason Hill of Smyrna, Megan Hill of Nashville, Michelle Hill of Union City, Mandy Corum of Troy, Stacey Davidson of Martin, Brian Laster of Rives, Daniel Hill of Springfield, Matt Hill of Arlington, and Katie Beth Vancleave of Union City. In addition, she leaves thirty-eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Mary also leaves behind two sisters and a brother-in-law, Katherine Workman of Kenton and Anne and Joe Mac Huffine of Mason Hall; and a brother and sister-in-law, Freddy and Marilyn Jordan of Kenton and countless nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her son, James Hill; two brothers, Hubert Jordan and JC Jordan; and one great-grandchild, Braedon Barnett.
