HONORING VAUGHN
HONORING VAUGHN — A ceremony was held Friday morning on the parking lot of Southlane Bowling on West Reelfoot Avenue in Union City to commemorate the naming of a portion of TN-690, the future I-69, in Obion County as “SOC Aaron Carson Vaughn Memorial Highway” in honor of the fallen U.S. Navy SEAL. During the event, small commemorative versions of the signage were presented to Vaughn’s parents, (from left) Karen and Billy Vaughn Jr. of Stuart, Fla., formerly of Obion County, and his paternal grandmother, Geneva Vaughn of Union City. Vaughn, a native of Obion County and a 1999 graduate of Obion County Central High School, was killed in action Aug. 6, 2011, when a helicopter was shot down during a mission in the Wardak Province of Afghanistan.
