BIRTHDAY MEMORIES — Valeria Hyde (left) of Union City fondly remembers the cakes her grandmother, the late Elvira Hampton of Providence, Ky., would make for family birthdays. The tradition of making those cakes with the recipes for the cake and icing are now kept by Mrs. Hyde’s sister, Shelia Hawkins of Providence.
