She was born on Jan. 30, 1945, in Raleigh, N.C., daughter of the late Henry Lester Creech and Dorothy Jane (Thatcher) Creech. She married the late Fred “Danny” Wilkinson on May 15, 1964. They had a long and faithful marriage until his passing in February of 2016. We rejoice and find such comfort in knowing they have been reunited in heaven.
She was a loyal and dedicated educator for the Union City School System for over 30 years with her tenure beginning in the early 1980s as a special education teacher. She continued in that role for several years and eventually added technology to her duties as part of LEAP (Learning Enrichment Active Program) in 2001 where she worked with gifted students. She loved each and every student that she taught and loved seeing them throughout the years. She often spoke about how wonderful it was to run into students outside of school, whether it be at Walmart or at one of her favorite restaurants in town. After a long period in the classroom, she looked forward to a new challenge when former Director of Schools, Mr. Gary Houston, promoted her to Classroom Curriculum Coordinator at the Union City Board of Education in 2006. She had a huge heart for teachers and always loved finding ways to help them grow, feel supported and succeed. Despite absolutely loving her career in education, she made the difficult decision to retire in 2018 where she could enjoy more quality time with her family and friends.
As both a mother and a friend, she will be remembered for her unwavering support, wonderful sense of humor and her remarkable generosity. She was a steadfast supporter of her community, always attending school sporting events, Masquerade Theater performances, and dining at all the major eateries here in town. She was even honored with her own booth at Subway. She was a member of First Methodist Church where she loved serving as a volunteer. She always brought humor, and a little bit of sass, as she bantered with those who worked in the office. She was a bright light and her presence brought so much comfort and joy. Her absence will be felt profoundly by her family and friends, but we rejoice in knowing we will see her again and spend eternity in heaven together.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Jennifer Wilkinson of Lakeland, Fla.; her daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Daniel Boyer of Lascassas; three grandchildren, Clayton Wilkinson of Greenville, S.C., George Boyer of Martin and Mallory Wilkinson of Tampa, Fla.; her sister and brother-in-law, Terry and Ray Campbell of Raleigh, N.C.; her brother and sister-in-law, John and Jane Creech of Ellensburg, Wash.; her sister-in-law, Linda Gail Clark of Cary, N.C.; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard M. “Dickie” Wilkinson Jr. and Brenda Wilkinson of Raleigh, N.C.; her aunt, Shelba (Creech) Keene of Four Oaks, N.C.; and uncle, Donald W. Creech of Pine Level, N.C.
