FISHING FOR FREEDOM

FISHING FOR FREEDOM — Conditions were ideal Saturday morning for the inauguaral Fishing For Freedom event at Union City’s Veterans Park lake. Keeping a close eye on the water was 13-year-old Gabe Scott, son of Nick and Maegan Scott of Fulton. He was one of nearly a dozen participants in Saturday’s event, which was sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4862, the Union City Parks and Recreation Department and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. The fishing tournament was open to fishermen 15 and younger and lasted three hours. At noon, participants were treated to a hamburger lunch and awards were handed out. Organizers of the inaugural event said they are planning to make the fishing tournament an annual event, tied in to Veterans Day.
