WATER WORKS
WATER WORKS — Firefighter First Class Kevin Steele (foreground left) and firefighter Will Simmons are silhouetted as they listen to instruction and adjust their gear before heading into a mist of water during the Union City Fire Department’s sprinkler system hookup and operations training Thursday morning at the old Obion County Industrial Training Center, also formerly a furniture store, on South Second Street in downtown Union City. Firefighters don’t often get to practice in large commercial structures, and fire officials said having access to the building before it is torn down has been invaluable. All UCFD personnel participated in the instruction, which included afternoon interior fire attack training — using a thermal imager to search for fire amid simulated smoky conditions — at the same location.
