HISTORY LESSON — David Willard of the Sons of the American Revolution, James Madison Chapter in Jackson, showed (from left) Marjorie Thorn and Riley Offerle items from the organization’s Patriot’s Chest, which is used for homeschool and class presentations. Willard was at Discovery Park of America over the weekend as part of the local heritage park’s Independence Day celebration. The Patriot’s Chest was designed to bring elements of historical events surrounding the American Revolution into the classroom so children can experience and touch the various items. Miss Thorn is the 12-year-old daughter of Richard Thorn and Jenni Bearden, while Miss Offerle, 12, is under the guardianship of Mikayla Hamricke and Hector Flores. All are from Bartlett.
