FUN & GAMES — Firefighter First Class Michael Reeves (top photo, far left) of the Union City Fire Department was intercepted by Union City Police Department patrol officer Cory Pinion (second from left) for some good-natured fun during his attempt to make it to first base during the second annual Battle of the Badges fundraiser softball game Saturday night at Elam Stadium in Union City. Pinion had tossed the ball to Union City Police Chief Ben Yates (third from left) for an out as Patrolman First Class/K9 handler Reed Harris moved in to assist if needed. The game was police vs. firefighters in a benefit for the UCPD’s Shop With a Cop program, which provides toys and clothing for local children during a Christmas shopping experience with law enforcement and other first responders. Police came out on top in an event that raised $4,321 through admission, food sales and a friendly competition based on donations collected in each department’s designated bucket — with Reeves later enjoying the privilege of throwing a pie in UCFD Battalion Chief Corey Jones’ face (photo at right) as a result of the final tally.
