James Bowling

James E. “Jamie” Bowling, 87, of Union City passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025, at The Arbors of Union City.
Born on May 23, 1937, in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Lincoln and Mildred (Hardin) Bowling. Jamie was a respected riverboat captain, having worked with Crounce Transportation and retired from Mid South Towing Company. He was known for mentoring many young men in the riverboat industry. Jamie was a member of Second Baptist Church in Union City and had a passion for classic cars, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his two sons, Jim Bowling of Jackson and Shane Bowling and wife, Nicole, of Friendship; five daughters, Jeanie Rice and husband, Roger, Paula Rice and husband, Scott McAdoo, and Pam Carroll, all of Union City, Shelia Parks of Troy and Rainy Pulley and husband, Roger, of Orlando, Fla. He also leaves behind three sisters, Martha Ellen Himes and Linda Bryant, both of Savannah, and Janice Love of Clifton; one brother, Randy Bowling of Benton, Ky.; along with 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Jamie was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 38 years, Bertie (McClure) Bowling, who preceded him in death on June 24, 2020; and one son, Donald Bass.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home, with Pastor Justin Hiens officiating. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from noon until the hour of services on Thursday. 
Pallbearers will include C.J. Baggett, Travis Speed, Joe Busby, Scott McAdoo, Roger Woodward and Danny Brann, with honorary pallbearers being Janet McGee, Edna Rosario, the Faith Life Group, the staff and nurses at The Arbors and the staff of Baptist Hospice.
Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Second Baptist Church, 831 North Everett Blvd., Union City, TN or the Alzheimer’s Association.
