TEAM EFFORT

TEAM EFFORT — It’s been a busy few days for local firefighters, starting with fires shortly before 8 a.m. both Thursday and Friday at Green Plains ethanol plant (above) on McDonald Road near Obion. The fire Thursday was reported to have been contained in a dryer. The Obion Fire Department was assisted via mutual aid by the Kenton, Troy and Union City fire departments, with firefighters on the scene a total of about two hours. The fire Friday was reported to have taken about six hours to control, and about 30 firefighters were on the scene, but no additional information was immediately available. Meanwhile, on April 30, the Union City Fire Department responded to a structure fire which burned the back porch of a home at 524 East Cheatham St. No one was injured and the house was saved, according to Union City Fire Chief Karl Ullrich. While battling the fire on East Cheatham, Union City firefighters were also dispatched to a rural fire near the railroad tracks between Oakshire Road and Lynch Lane, with the Rives Volunteer Fire Department responding to assist them with the field fire on Lynch Lane.
