Ethel Duren
Mrs. Ethel Nell Hobbs Duren, age 85, of Kenton passed away from this life on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Duren will be conducted on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in the Kenton chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home, with Bro. Joey Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery.
Ethel Duren was born on Aug. 30, 1939, in Kenton to Samuel Thomas and Helen Puckett Hobbs. Prior to her retirement, she was employed at Stevens Steakhouse in Illinois. Mrs. Duren was a devoted member of New Concord Baptist Church. She had a profound love for God, her family, friends and animals. She took great pleasure in feeding the fish in her pond and enjoyed activities such as quilting, gardening and taking care of her flowers. Ethel deeply cherished being outdoors whenever possible.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Duren Collins; sister, Brenda Woodruff of Marion, Ill.; brother, Charles Hobbs of Marion, Ill.; four grandchildren, Jacob (Courtney) Vickery, Christopher (Jessica) Harris, Melissa (Patrick) Delaney and Brandon (Angelina) Bishoff; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Duren; daughter, Tammy Bishoff of Colorado; siblings, Martha Howard, Carolyn Webster and James Thomas Hobbs; and grandparents, Robert Lee and Mammy Hobbs and Bernie and Annie Puckett.
The pallbearers are Michael Howard, Dennis Jackson, Shaun Hood, Bruce Monroe, Scott Webster, Ricky Hobbs; with honorary pallbearer, Jacob Vickery.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the Kenton chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home. Karnes & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Ethel Nell Hobbs Duren.
