Joseph Prather
Mr. Joseph Lynn Prather, age 78, of Union City passed away on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.
Mr. Prather was born on March 22, 1946, in Obion County to the late James William Prather and Caroline Marshall Prather.
Mr. Prather was a member of West Hickman Baptist Church. He started his career in Hickman with the Carborundum Company and then transitioned to the Sigri Carbon Company for a total of 19 years of combined service. He then retired after 17 years as the owner and operator of the former Mengel Mart in Hickman, Ky. Mr. Prather loved to hunt, fish and play tennis with his wife, Hollica “Lisa” Williams Prather. In his later years, he developed a love for golf and was a member of Hickman Country Club.
He is survived by one son, Joseph Shane (Sherese) Prather of Wapakoneta, Ohio; one daughter, Jessica “JJ” Prather of Union City; six grandchildren, James Nicholas (Ivy) Prather of St. Marys, Ohio, Nancy (Wes) Carr of Martin, Preston “Jade” Eakes of Hickman, Ashlee (Brad) Wirgau of Buchanan, Brad (Audrey) Weatherbee of Camden and Cory (Hannah) Weatherbee of Gleason; 12 great-grandchildren, Zola Prather, Layla Prather, Carter Unger, Caroline Carr, Rhiannon Eakes, Brayden Eakes, Peyton Eakes, Chloe McClure, Jaxon Harrison, Sutton Wirgau, Sydney Weatherbee and Jentri Weatherbee; and one sister, Elaine (Ray) Burden of Union City.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Hollica “Lisa” Williams Prather.
Funeral services for Mr. Prather were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Hickman. Burial followed in the Salem Cemetery in Woodland Mills. Visitation for Mr. Joseph Prather was held Sunday from 2 p.m. until the service time.
