Mary Matthews

Mary “Mammy” Matthews, age 79, of South Fulton passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2024, at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson.
She was born on Oct. 5, 1945, in Fulton to the late Ed Rushing and Mae Caperton Rushing.
She was a homemaker and a member of Johnson Grove Baptist Church. She loved going to the beach, arts and crafts, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Kim (Donnie) Clapper of South Fulton and Kelly Davis of Drummonds; five grandchildren, Shawn Cory (Heather) White of Union City, Kelsey Davis of Chattanooga, Katie (Jacob) Hobbs of South Fulton, Jake (Maggie) Clapper of South Fulton and Will Clapper of South Fulton; four great-grandchildren, Carter, Cade and Malaya White of Union City and Cloee Clapper of South Fulton; and one sister, Martha Dyke of Calvert City, Ky.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W.C. Matthews, who passed away on Nov. 22, 2024; one sister, Nancy Riley; and six brothers, Charles, Raymond, Robert, Jim, Joe and Dennis Rushing.
Funeral services for Mary “Mammy” Matthews were held at 1 p.m. Thursday Jan. 2, 2025, at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel. Visitation was held at 10 a.m. Thursday until the hour of service.
