Herman Jenkins
Herman Jenkins, business owner and resident of Union City, died at his home on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2024.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, at White-Ranson Funeral Home with Bro. Roger Shock officiating. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
He was born in Clarksdale, Miss., on Dec. 30, 1942, to the late Herman Jenkins and the late Louise Sinquefield Jenkins and never forgot his Delta Roots. He graduated from Clarksdale High School, where he excelled in sports. He was chosen by the 1960 All Sporting News as an All-American football player. He traveled to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he played in the game. He attended Harding College in Searcy, Ark., on a football scholarship. He later transferred to the University of Memphis.
Mr. Jenkins started in the car business working for Ford Motor Credit Company before going into the retail business. He moved his family to Union City in 1985 when he started Herman Jenkins Motors. He became the Chairman of Tennessee Automotive Dealers Association from 2014-2015. He served on many boards throughout his career and was an active member of the Rotary Club where he gave many scholarships to the youth.
He was an avid golfer. His love of the game led him to become the president of Poplar Meadows Country Club and served on the board for many years. He was a member of the first graduating class of Obion County Leadership program.
His love of his family was first and foremost. He will be greatly missed by all. He will be buried with his beloved grandog, Ed, by him.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; his children, Andrea (Rob) Rial, Dana (Alan) Ellis and Lynn (Amy) Jenkins; his six grandchildren, Blake (Ashley) Miller, Mallory (Justin) Hansen, Cody Ellis, Nicole Ellis, Mimi Jenkins and Bertie Jenkins; two great-grandchildren, Madi and Maisyn Miller; and one sister, Camille Poag.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Jenkins was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby and Tommy Jenkins; and one sister, Elsie Jo Youngblood.
