HOME & CARS BURN
HOME & CARS BURN — Firefighters pulled a hose early Tuesday as they entered a burning home at 512 North Dobbins St. in Union City, north of East College Street, where two cars beside a carport also caught fire. The Union City Fire Department was dispatched to the blaze at 8:12 a.m., arriving to find flames already coming through the roof of the rental house. Union City Fire Chief Karl Ullrich said two people who were home at the time were able to safely escape, with one sustaining minor injury. He said the fire started in the wall between the house and the carport, with the cars catching fire as a result of the structure fire. Fire officials have an idea of the origin, but not the cause, and have requested a fire loss consultant from the state fire marshal’s office to help determine cause. No foul play is currently suspected. South Fulton and Rives fire departments responded via auto aid to assist the UCFD, which had a good turnout of personnel due to the alarm coming in shortly after 8 a.m. shift change. The fire was quickly knocked down and reported under control at 8:38 a.m. Firefighters remained on the scene until shortly after 10 a.m. doing overhaul, including extinguishing hot spots and salvaging some of the family’s belongings. Ullrich said the home was “very heavily damaged.”
