Aline Roberts
Aline Winbourne Gray (Mrs. James Gary Roberts) was born in Nashville, TN. She is the 2 nd oldest of four girls raised in Madison, TN by her parents Mr. & Mrs. William W. Gray deceased. She is the fifth generation of “Gray’s Onitment Co.” a basic medicine which began in 1820, by her g.g. grandfather Dr. William Waller Gray in Richmond, VA but is now resolved. Aline was a Girl Scout, member of 4-H Club, a Jr. Garden Club member and showed pleasure and walking ponies in Horse Shows in her home area. At Goodlettsville High School she was a basketball manager for (3yrs.); a senior cheerleader, secretary of Senior Class and chosen Most Dependable in 12 th grade. Aline received her B. S. degree from UT Knoxville in Home Economics-Child Development in 1959. While attending UTK she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Aline married James Gary Roberts of Sharon, son of Malcolm & Martha Jim Roberts. They celebrated their 62st Wedding Anniversary-Aug. 30, 2020. She is the mother of three sons Gary Franklin (Karan)Roberts, Sharon; John W. (Trudi) Roberts, Knoxville; and Lee Thomas (Anna) Roberts, Sharon. Seven grandchildren: Alex, Rachel, Brooke, Lane, Ty James, Rex and Grant. Sister Mary Gray Martin, (Ray) of Goodlettsville; Betty Gray Kincaid, Mobile, AL; and deceased sister Jane Gray Kinsolving, Madison, Tn. Aline was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and served one term as State Librarian; She served as TN State President of the: Daughters of the American
Colonists; Colonial Dames of XVII Century; United States Daughters of 1812; and Huguenot Society of the Founders of Manakin in the Colony of VA; She also was a member of: The Hereditary Order of Descendants of the Loyalists and Patriots of the American Revolution; Order of the Crown of Charlemagne in USA; Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars; Sons and Daughters of the Colonial and Antebellum Bench and Bar; Order of Americans of Armorial Ancestry and National Gavel Club. She also served as National President of Huguenots Society of the Founders of Manakin in the Colony of Virginia. Aline has served on various boards in her town, Cancer, Heart, TN Bicentennial Committee and on Weakley Co. Ladies Republican Board. She is a member of Sharon Church of Christ and a member of the Ladies Freed-Hardeman Club. She loved the Lord and was honored to serve Him. Her interest included history, traveling, antiques, playing bridge, and being with her family.
Services for Aline Roberts will be held Friday at Sharon Church of Christ at 11 am. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Sharon. Visitation will begin Thursday evening at Sharon Church of Christ going from 6 pm to 8 pm. It will resume Friday morning at 9:30 am and go until time of her service at the church. In Lieu of Flowers all donation be made to the Woodlawn Cemetery Association at Simmons Bank.
