Joe McEwen

Joe L. McEwen, age 88, of Troy passed away surrounded by his family Friday, June 7, 2024, at his home.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2024, at White-Mahon Funeral home, with Bro. Judd Mowery and Bro. Brian Nance officiating. Burial followed in Terrace Hill Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday night, June 9, 2024, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were his grandchildren and their spouses, Heather (Chad) Franks, Shawn (Jaime) Johnson, Tara (Brian) Bur-ress, Becky McEwen, Carla (Chris) Butts, Annah (Larry Joe) Daniel, Jessica (Trey) Browning, Callie (Tim) Darnell, Will (Candace) Mc-Bride and Clint (Kassadie) Tibbs.
Mr. McEwen was born in Humboldt on Jan. 17, 1936, to the late Joe McEwen and the late Nell Turner McEwen. He married Sarah Ann Caldwell McEwen on Aug. 5, 1955.
He was a member of Troy First Baptist Church and faithfully attended and supported Troy Methodist Church with his wife and children. He was a member of Troy Lions Club and ROMEO Lunch Club and was a longtime supporter of Obion County Schools and the Troy community.
Mr. McEwen served in the United States Air Force from 1956-62. He was retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after working for 28 years. He and his wife were able to travel, fish and enjoy making precious memories together after their retirement. He loved spending time with his children, grands and great-grandchildren. He was an avid gardener, military memorabilia collector, handyman and “Jack of all trades.” He was a book of knowledge, history and wisdom. Mr. McEwen always welcomed anyone and everyone to his home.
He is survived by his four children, Nancy (Ronnie) Johnson, Bo (Jeannie) McEwen and Teresa Tibbs, all of Troy, and Beth (Jeff) McBride of Rives; his brother, John (Kay) McEwen of Union City; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and “number 22 on the way,” and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McEwen was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Ann Caldwell McEwen; son-in-law, Carl Tibbs; sister, Frances Rea; and brother, Harvey McEwen.
