Larry Dexter

Larry Duane Dexter, 85, of South Fulton, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the Obion County Nursing Home in Union City. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel with Elder Josh Hazlewood and Elder Danny Ferrel officiating. Burial followed in the Sandy Branch Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jason Jackson, Kelly Davidson, Larry Kimbel, Kenney Etherton, Zach Etherton and Dale Frazier. Honorary pallbearers included Cory Williams, Kristen Roach and Ian Dexter. Mr. Dexter was born on May 7, 1939 in Fenton, Michigan to the late Cornell Dexter and Jeanette Cook Dexter. He belonged to the Sandy Branch Primitive Baptist Church and was a mechanic for John Deere in Union City and Martin and Allied Equipment. He had served in the Army Reserves. He is survived by his wife, Mary Nell (Ingram) Dexter to whom he married on October 6, 1991; a son, Shane Dexter of Keller, Texas; two step-daughters, Rhonda (Greg) Roach and Regina McKnight, both of South Fulton; one grandchild, Ian Dexter of Nolenville; three step-grandchildren, Cory (Allyson) Williams of South Fulton, Nick (Emily) Wright of West Chester, Pennsylvania and Kristen Roach of Union City; and two great-grandchildren, Lennon Hill of Norfolk, Virginia and Annie Williams of South Fulton; and two sisters, Connie (Harry) Thomas of Lansing, Michigan and Janie Fisher of Holland, Michigan. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a son, Bradley Dexter; one brother, Harold Dexter; one sister, Laura Diane Jackson; and a daughter-in-law, Traci Dexter.
