SPECIAL STAR — Nine-year-old Bricen Simmons, a student at South Fulton Elementary School, made his way toward the finish line in the 25-meter wheelchair race, with the support of SFES speech pathologist Denise Wright, during the Upper West Tennessee-Area 7 Special Olympics spring games Friday at Union City High School’s War Memorial Stadium. He is the son of Ed Simmons of South Fulton and Heather Dowden of Martin. Students from schools in Obion and Weakley counties participated in the games. SF’s students were welcomed back to school by the cheers of fellow students. Friday’s contests were followed Saturday by the spring games for adults at the UCHS campus. Special Olympics offers year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with disabilities, focusing on their abilities and inclusion.
