Dr. Jerry Sullivan

Dr. Jerry L. Sullivan, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away at his home in Union City on March 20, 2024, at the age of 81. He was born December 26, 1942, in Lexington, Tennessee, son of the late Curry and Ethel (Smith) Sullivan.
Dr. Sullivan married Mary Charlotte (Holmes) Sullivan of Lexington, Tennessee, on November 6, 1964. After completing dental school at The University of Tennessee College of Dentistry, he joined the United States Coast Guard, where he served in Cape May, New Jersey. He and Charlotte made their home in Union City. Dr. Sullivan built his dental practice in Union City, where he cared for patients until 2019.
Jerry was dedicated to the community and had served as the chairman of the Union City School Board, served as a deacon and treasurer at First Baptist Church in Union City, and was president of the 7th District Dental Society. He served as president of the Union City Rotary Club where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. Jerry’s love for his community was quietly shared by volunteering at the Reelfoot Rural Ministry Dental Clinic for many years. After retirement Jerry spent many hours on the family farm driving his red tractor.
Jerry leaves behind his wife, Charlotte Sullivan of Union City; his four children, Dr. Ty Sullivan and wife, Tonya, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Sheridan S. Siefert and husband, Todd, of Nashville, Joanna S. Callis and husband, Steve, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Dr. Gabe Sullivan and wife, Amy, of Union City; his eleven grandchildren, Victoria Sullivan, Andrew Sullivan, Sydney Siefert, Anniston Siefert, Colson Siefert, Miller Callis, Owen Callis and Charlotte Callis and Curry Sullivan, Jasper Sullivan and Minnie Sullivan; and two sisters, Kaye Rhodes and husband, Bill, of Lexington and Sue Pflasterer and husband, Dave, of Troy, Missouri.
Jerry will be remembered by his friends and family as a humble, kind, Christian man, who loved his family unconditionally without end.
Dr. Sullivan’s Celebration of Life service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Union City. Brother Ben Lownsdale officiated. Burial followed at Tennessee State Veteran’s Cemetery at Parkers Crossroads.
Pallbearers were Miller Callis, Owen Callis, Steve Callis, Colson Siefert, Todd Siefert, Andrew Sullivan, Curry Sullivan and Jasper Sullivan.
Visitation was held at First Baptist Church from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday and from noon until the hour of services Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 500 East Church St., Union City, Tennessee 38261.
