Charles Quillin
Charles Austin Quillin, born March 26, 1943, passed away peacefully on Feb. 10, 2024, at his home in Troy, surrounded by family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles “Fuzz” Cleo Quillin, and mother, Mable Austin Quillin. He leaves behind his loving wife, Wanda (Spicer) Quillin, whom he married July 8, 1987; father of Cristy (Jeff) Hebreard, Penny Mitchell Cunningham and Larry Mitchell Jr.; grandfather of Sean (Payton), Colin and Nathan Hebreard, Tori (Clay) Jones, Trey (Alanna) Mitchell, Olivia (Brett) Burress and Cody Cunningham; and great-grandfather to Kynadi and Rylee Burress and Brynlee and Will-Bennett Jones.
Mr. Quillin graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in fire protection in 1965. From there, he worked at International Harvester outside of Chicago. He then worked as a firefighter and was promoted through the ranks to Chief at Tri-State Fire Department in Darien, Ill. After leaving Tri-State, he moved to Tennessee, where he started working for Hartford Steam Boiler Insurance, where he retired in 2009.
During retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family, camping, listening to his fire scanner and taking long drives to see where his relatives lived. He was an amazing story teller, recounting his history, especially as a firefighter, to anyone that would listen.
There will be a private service for immediate family at a later date. He will take his last ride with the Union City Fire Department from White-Ranson Funeral Home to the fire station to honor Mr. Quillin’s years of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be sent in his name to the Fallen Firefighters Foundation, with donations to the Na-tional Fallen Firefighters Foundation. People may also donate directly to the Union City Fire Department to help cover any costs or expenses it may need. Its address is UCFD, 111 North Fifth St., Union City, TN 38261.
Condolences may be sent to the family at the funeral home website: www.white-ranson.com.
