LABOR OF LOVE — Renowned billboard artist Benny Zaricor, who was raised in Kenton and now lives near New Orleans, worked Tuesday to put the finishing touches on a new mural he has painted for the City of Kenton on 12-foot by 24-foot metal panels facing South Poplar Street in the city’s downtown area. The mural pays homage to the city’s population of white squirrels and highlights the architectural beauty of Kenton’s Methodist and Cumberland Presbyterian churches, as well as makes references to the cotton and grape crops produced in the area and to the town’s beloved late physician, Dr. Jack Gray, with inclusion of his doctor’s bag in the artwork. Zaricor’s oldest living family member, 98-year-old George Farris of Kenton (close up photo), a World War II veteran and former mayor and city judge in Kenton, joined him on a hydraulic lift to do a bit of painting Monday and Tuesday.
