DYER COUNTY 28, OBION CENTRAL 26

The Rebels were stopped on a potential game-tying two-point conversion attempt with 1:59 remaining in the game to suffer a heartbreaking Region 7-4A setback at Newbern on Friday.

Central pulled within 28-26 on a fourth-down touchdown pass where Hamilton May threw over the middle to Kevyn Alfter, who then pitched back to Kweli Purifoy going the other way for a 26-yard TD play.

On the conversion, however, Dyer County’s defense broke through and forced May to scramble, tackling the Rebel quarterback just inside the 10-yard line.

May accounted for all four Rebel touchdowns as he had a 51-yard interception return for a score and TD runs of one and six yards in addition to the scoring pass.

He ran for 148 yards on 19 carries.

Ja’Bari Livingston ran for two touchdowns and 226 yards, while Pierre Isom added two scores and 124 yards rushing for the Choctaws.

OC will host Craigmont on Friday night, a win guaranteeing the Rebels a winning overall record.
