HIGHWAY REOPENS

HIGHWAY REOPENS — A recent aerial shot of Highway 51 between Union City and the Twin Cities of Fulton and South Fulton shows completion of an Interstate-69 construction project that closed the northbound section of the four-lane highway for the past several months, forcing motorists to detour along the two-lane Ken-Tenn Highway. The Tennessee Department of Transportation reopened Highway 51 before noon today and officially shut down the alternate route. In an update Monday to the county commission, Obion County Mayor Steve Carr also said TDOT indicated its goal is to have the interstate loop around Union City ready for use by motorists by Thanksgiving, but there could be a little variance on that date. The Messenger’s aerial shot was courtesy of helicopter transportation provided by longtime local pilot Mike Rinker and his pilot son Colton Rinker.
