City of Martin discusses greenway, splash pad

When the City of Martin Board of Alderman met Monday afternoon, the first topic of discussion was the greenway and whose responsibility it was to maintain it.

Alderman Scott Robbins asked the department heads in attendance who was responsible for the maintenance of the greenway, specifically the section between Farm Rd. and the pedestrian’s bridge. That was determined to be the responsibility of the university, not the city. City officials agreed to contact the university.

Another issue raised was the current situation with the splash pad in downtown Martin. Officials with the city said that the splash pad was working properly, it is the timer that is malfunctioning. The board asked the city to manually turn it on and off until the timer can be repaired or replaced.

The new business on the agenda discussed, which will be discussed further at a special meeting at noon on June 30 was as follows;

  • Second and Final Reading of O2023-02: An Ordinance of the City of Martin, Tennessee adopting the Annual Budget and Establishing a Property Tax Rate for the Fiscal Year

Beginning July 1, 2023 and Ending June 30, 2024. This is the Public Hearing.

  • Introduction and Reading of R2023-04: A Resolution Making Appropriations to Certain Non-Profit Charitable Organizations, for the Fiscal Year Beginning July 1, 2023 and Ending

June 30, 2024.

  • Second and Final Reading of O2022-03: An Ordinance Authorizing Budget Amendments to Various Funds of the City of Martin, Tennessee for the Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 2023.

This is the Public Hearing.

  • Reappoint Library Trustee Members.
