John Carlton
John Whitfield Carlton, 62, a resident of the Ukraine for the last three years, and of Newbern when he was home, died May 3, 2022, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022, at White-Ranson Funeral Home. The Rev. Melvin Poe officiated. Burial followed in Obion County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Steve Cochran, Shane Long, Anthony Hagan, Samuel Hagan, Nathan Hagan and Lanny Bethel. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Morris and Rich Carlton.
The family received friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the funeral home.
Mr. Carlton was born Nov. 3, 1959, in Union City, son of the late Richard Taylor Carlton Sr. and Marlene (Taylor) Carlton Long.
In 2003, he went on a mission trip to the Ukraine. His visits became more frequent year after year. After retiring from Publix in Murfreesboro, John spent his retirement years in Ukraine and he decided to become a dual citizen. He loved to help with the children’s orphanage and teaching English.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. Carlton is survived by a sister, Cindi (Tony) Veatch of Newbern; brother, Richard Taylor (Dukja) Carlton Jr. of College Park, Md.; daughter, Nikki (Cameron) Maxey of Tallahassee, Fla.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Sheila June Carlton and Janet Carl-ton Thompson.
