Pastor Vernon Alexander, 78, of Union City went home to be with the Lord 6:47 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.
Funeral services were conducted 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Clayton Mahan and Brother Danny Walker officiated. Burial followed in East View Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeff Alexander, Keith Forrester, Mitchell Forrester, Landon Alexander, Evan Alexander, Brandon Alexander and Lane Crawford.
Visitation was held at the funeral home from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of services.
Vernon was born Aug. 1, 1943, in Ridgely, son of the late Hubert Vernon Alexander Sr. and the late Hazel Lee (Ligon) Alexander. He married Virginia (Pollock) Alexander May 11, 1963. She survives. Vernon retired from Kohler in Union City after 38 years of service. He was the minister of The Church of God of Prophecy in Union City. Vernon and his family traveled for several years singing gospel music as The Alexander Family.
He is also survived by one daughter, Tammy Forrester and her husband, Keith, of Union City; three sons, Lynn Alexander and his wife, Jennifer, of Medina, Andy Alexander and his wife, Carla, of Union City and Jeff Alexander and his wife, Sabrina, of Nashville; two sisters, Sheila Walker of South Fulton and Sharon Davidson of Martin; three brothers, Milton Alexander of Munford, and David Alexander and Mark Alexander, both of Dyersburg; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Logan Alexander; one sister, Nancy Gunnells; and two brothers, Paul Alexander and William Alexander.
