John Mitchell
Services for John Robert “Bobby” Mitchell, age 91, of Dresden, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2021, at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield, with burial to follow in Hornbeak Cemetery in Greenfield. Visitation will begin Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home. John, nickname Bobby, was survived by his daughters, Roberta Lee (Robert) German and Teri Lynn Wildes; two grandchildren, Robin and Brittany; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Ruth Goodlow; parents, Robert Birdine Mitchell and Lottie Faye (Richmond) Mitchell; grandparents, Burford and Jetta (Garrett) Mitchell and John and Betty (Rial) Richmond. John had a very eventful and memorable life. He received and award in the first grade for straight As and Salutatorian graduating in High School. He trained as a linotype operator to work his way through college graduating as a Mathematician. He serviced in the Army receiving and honorable discharge. John upon graduating from Tennessee Tech received special training in early computers at MIT, Boston, MA. John was employed on various leading edge government defense contracts, SAGE, CCIS-70, NTDS, P3C, ATU etc. John Helped develop Post Cereals first factory computer system. He Help develop the computer systems from vacuum tube, transistor, solid state circuitry mainly in the programming and management ends receiving various awards. John wrote and published two books. John was a traveler living in Europe for 18 months and in 8 states around the country retiring back close to his roots, Weakley County.
