Mr. James Wesley “The Quarter Man” Matheny, 93, a resident of Union City, died July 23, 2021, at Union City Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sun-day at Berea Church of Christ. Brother Lee Moses and Randy Kellough officiated. Burial followed in Berea Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Raiford Tarver, Mark McCullough, Joe Pryor, Steve Wigdor, Wesley Kellough and James Brewer.
The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, and Sunday from 2 p.m. until service time at the church.
Mr. Matheny was born on July 26, 1927, in Martin, son of the late Carl and Verna (Hill) Matheny. He joined the U.S. Air Force and he worked as a mechanic for Brown Shoe Company for 52 years. On July 11, 1950, he married Donna Jo Cochran. She preceded him in death June 3, 2004. He was a member of Berea Church of Christ.

He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Sharon Matheny of Antioch; two grandsons, Markus (Erin Meeks) Matheny of Nashville and Thomas (Kajsa) Matheny of Nashville; three nephews, James Brewer of Wickliffe Ky., Wesley Kellough of Martin and Randy Kellough of Jackson; and a niece, Louise Gardner of Sherburne, N.Y.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mike Matheny; two sisters, Edna Brewver and Nannie Mae Kellough; and two nephews, Steve Kellough and Carl Jesse Kellough.
