Geraldine Phipps Callison, 80, of the Terrell community passed away 3:05 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2021, at AHC of Union City.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Trent Callison will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
She was born Feb. 13, 1941, in Hickman, Ky., daughter of the late T.Z. Phipps and Carrie Estelle (Hammock) Phipps.
Geraldine grew up in Hickman and was a 1959 graduate of Fulton County High School. She spent many years in the Hickman area and later moved to Union City. She spent much of her life working at the former Reelfoot Packing Company before its closing. Geraldine then worked for Cox Oil Company before she took her last job at Williams Sausage Company. She spent her later years in the Terrell community of Weakley County before becoming a resident in the nursing home setting where she shared the last two years of her life with her oldest daughter.
She was a loving mom, grandmother and friend. Many knew her as Geri, but to her, her most important title was “Maw.” She was so proud to be a grandmother and loved time spent with her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, reading and crossword puzzles. In her later years, she enjoyed playing games on her tablet, with one of her favorite games being spider solitaire. She loved country music and was a huge fan of Luke Bryan and Rascal Flatts.
She was a fighter her entire life, but her biggest fight was surviving cancer over 35 years ago. She was forever grateful for her family and friend’s support then and throughout life.
She was later diagnosed with hereditary spastic paraparesis, and fought with the ability to walk the last 10 years of her life. She found joy daily, despite the struggles she faced. She was loving, funny and compassionate.
Geraldine was of the Baptist faith. One of her favorite scriptures was John 14:2 “In my Father’s house are many mansions: If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”
She is survived by three sons, Warner Ray Callison Jr. (Sheryl) and George Callison, both of the Terrell community, and Ricky Callison of La Grange, Ky.; and a granddaughter she raised like a daughter, Niki Callison (Lee) of Martin. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Silas Campbell of Bowling Green, Ky., Beth Williamson Gallimore of Dresden, Audi Day (Matt-hew) of Edmond, Okla., Brittany Callison Winston (R.J.) of Martin, Kate Loethen of Caruthersville, Mo., and Ashley Callison of Martin; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by extended family including beloved nieces and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by one infant daughter, Carrie Suzanne Callison; a daughter, Kammye Callison; and a grandson, Joshua Stone Callison.
Her family would like to thank the staff from AHC-Union City, Weakley County Nursing and Rehab and Hillview CLC for the care they provided her over the past 10 years.
