Ruby Laird

Mrs. Ruby Laird, 85, a resident of Union City, died Jan. 17, 2021, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Chris Aton officiating.
Burial will follow in Sanders Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Laird was born on May 4, 1935, in Obion County, daughter of the late James Raymer and the late Alberta (Farley) Newsom. On Nov. 5, 1950, she married Ellis Earl Laird. He preceded her in death July 16, 1985. She worked as a caregiver and was the custodian for the Union Hall, Local 878, and was a member of The Anchor Church in Union City.
Mrs. Laird is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Bryant and Linda Bryant, both of Union City; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; one sister, Barbara Raymer Thompson of Paris; four brothers, Gene Raymer of Utica, Ky., Thomas Newsom of Union City and Chuck Raymer and Larry Raymer both of Paris; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Larry Laird; her stepfather, Wilson Newsom; her stepmother, Dot Raymer; a sister, Helen Hopson; and three brothers, Denson Newsom, J.D. Raymer and Jimmy Raymer, Jr.
