Westview freshman point guard Jada Harrison has officially joined the elite group of players across the state.
The Tennessee Sports Writers Association released its All-State selections for each of the three classes in Division I girls’ high school basketball, and the two classes in Division II on Monday. Harrison made the Class AA All-State squad, which puts her among the best players in Tennessee.
Harrison is not the only player from the county to be named All-State. It was not a shock to see Chloe Moore-McNeil and Tess Darby selected to the Class A unit.
Moore-McNeil and Darby are multi-time All-State selections. It was a cinch that they would be in their senior year. Moore-McNeil is a two-time Miss Basketball winner and three-time finalist, while Darby is a two-time Miss Basketball finalist.
There will no chance the TSWA was going to leave those stellar players off of the Class A All-State team.
Harrison is just getting her high school basketball career started. However, her freshman season was cut short by at least one game, and possibly two.
The freshman point guard helped the Lady Chargers to a 31-3 record and to the Class AA state tournament. The Lady Chargers beat Grainger 43-38 in the quarterfinals, and were set to play Upperman in the semifinals when the tournament was suspended, and eventually cancelled last week by the TSSAA.
Harrison led all scorers in the quarterfinal game with 18 points. That was one point above her average for the season. She scored 17 points per game as freshman, while also dishing out four assists and blocking three shots per game.
The young point guard has gained attention at the college level as she has already received some offers.
Greenfield was at the top of the polls for the entire season, thanks to Moore-McNeil and Darby. The two seniors led the Lady Yellowjackets to a 34-0 record and a 68-40 win over North Greene in the Class A state quarterfinals.
The Lady Yellowjackets were scheduled to play Clarkrange in the semifinals when it too, was suspended and later cancelled.
Both players will be heading to Division I college programs once the current COVID-19 restrictions are eased up.
Moore-McNeil signed with Indiana University last week, while Darby inked her name to a letter of intent back in November with the University of Tennessee.
Darby was a Miss Basketball semifinalist in 2018 and once again this season.  Her numbers were worthy of it, and for All-State as she averaged 16.5 points, over six rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 1.2 blocked shots per game.
The 6-1 senior shot 65 percent from the field, 45.5 percent from three-point range, and 81.5 percent at the free-throw line.
Moore-McNeil finished her high senior season averaging 21 points, 5.2 rebounds, and four assists per game. She is the only two-time Miss Basketball winner from the county.
Darby and Moore-McNeil each scored over 2,500 points in the their four-year careers at Greenfield and led the Lady Yellowjackets to a state championship in 2018, which was the first time for the girls’ program. Then someday she could be passing along her basketball knowledge to a freshman class as a possible All-American.
