TOP PLAYER — Union City senior quarterback Sam Theobald has been named at The Messenger-Obion County Prep Football Player of the Year for the 2019 season. Taking over as the starter this season, Theobald led the Golden Tornadoes to a 7-5 overall record and a spot in the second round of the Class 2A state playoffs. He rushed for 1,161 yards and 16 touchdowns on 171 carries, threw for 346 yards and two scores and had 104 total points while also leading the Twisters in tackles with 61.5 stops, a total that included a team-best 44 solo tackles. He also led the defense with four interceptions. Presenting the annual award is Messenger sports editor Kevin Weaks.
