LEAF PICK UP — Union City Public Works employees Kevin Bullion (left) and Thomas Nettles walked along Jackson Street Thursday morning clearing the gutters of leaves. Jeff Smith was driving the truck. The recent cold snap has caused leaves to fall from the trees, especially pecan trees. The Union City Public Works Department began its leaf pickup this week. A department spokesman is asking residents who wish to participate to place leaves in windrows adjacent to the curb. The windrows of leaves should not be placed past the curb and into the street. Limbs or other refuse should not be placed in the piles of leaves, as this will damage the impeller of the leaf machine. Leaves may also be bagged and left at the curb, but not in the street. Leaf crews will be running daily routes and will cover all city streets twice before yearly completion. For more information, call the public works department at 885-9601.
