ACTIVELY INVOLVED

ACTIVELY INVOLVED — New-found enthusiasm has accompanied the purchase of additional physical education activity equipment this year for Union City Middle School fifth-, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders. PE teacher Nelson Youngblood, who leads classes along with PE teacher Chris Palmer (not pictured), recently explained some of the new equipment to students (from left) Isaac Phipps, Jessica Acevedo-Trejo and Sa’Nya Wilson. Highlighting the additions are two “9 Square in the Air” games, a middle school favorite which combines volleyball with “9 Square on the Ground.” Growing enrollment in PE classes necessitated the purchase of extra equipment totaling over $4,000. Along with the added “9 Square” set-ups, purchased by an anonymous donor, money set aside in the UC Schools budget provided for the addition of Spike Ball, Nitro Ball, new birdies and jump ropes, among other things. Additions for the CDC class include parachutes, stacking buckets, large bowling pins and footballs, along with big birdies.
