STEPPING UP — Firefighters (from left) Kevin Steele, Carrie Wilson and Lt. Rick Stacks, all of the Union City Fire Department, paused in a tower stairwell at Discovery Park of America this morning as they discussed plans for the second annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, set to get under way at 9 a.m. Saturday at Discovery Park. Firefighters from near and far will pay tribute to the 343 firefighters who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of New York City’s World Trade Center in the Discovery Park tower stairways. They will make the trek up the 12 flights of stairs a total of 10 times in full gear. The climb will benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation as a sanctioned event, according to Stacks, the liaison for the local climb.
