Lonnie Maness

Dr. Lonnie Edward Maness, age 90, of Martin, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019, at his residence. Funeral service were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Martin Church of Christ with Bro. Ricky Phillips officiating with Murphy Funeral Home of Martin in charge of the arrangements. Burial followed in Jones Cemetery in Wildersville. Pallbearers were Danny Cash, Doug Monroe, Larry Kelly, Jimmy Kelly, Jimmy Wright and Charles Latta. Honorary Pallbearers were Ron Ayers, Jeff Wright and Eddie Hutchens. Dr. Maness was retired from the University of Tennessee at Martin after 37 years serving as Professor of History and was a member of the Martin Church of Christ. He is survived by his children, Barbara (Kim) Stafford of Little Rock, Arkansas and Dr. David (Rose) Maness of Eads; two grandchildren, Derek Stafford and James David Maness; and two great-grandchildren. Dr. Maness was preceded in death by his wife, Brooksie Nell Altom Maness; his parents, Lonnie Maness and Ruby Jewel Fowlkes Maness; two sisters, Patricia Gerhardt and Louise Gerleve; and two brothers, Glen Maness and Edgar Maness.
