Richard Smith

Richard Hayden Smith, 77, of Hickman, Ky., passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Friday, June 28 in the Tiptonville Chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home, with Brother Charles Southerland officiating. Burial will follow in Dyer County Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Justin Spicer, Caleb Hays, Greg Shell, Paul Shell, Chucky Shell and Scott Shell. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Gardiner, Dewayne Gardiner, Richard Smith and William Preslar.
He was born on May 22, 1942, in Tiptonville to the late Hayden and Zarah Powell Smith.
He was a retired shipping/receiving fork lift operator for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and was of the Baptist faith. He loved fishing, riding four wheelers and family get-togethers. He was retired from the Tennessee Army National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Lynn Smith of Hickman; two sons, Richard Glen Smith of Plain View, Ark., and Timothy Joseph Smith of Tiptonville; five daughters, Joann Smith Gardiner of Water Valley, Ky., Jennifer Lynn Smith Spicer and Amanda Michelle Smith, both of Tiptonville, Stephanie Dawn Smith May of Danville, Va., and Melinda Kay Mungle of Obion; a brother, Charles Wade Smith of Collinsville, Ill.; two sisters, Peggy Berkbigler of Lake St. Louis, Mo., and Mary Ethel Cromwell of Hurricane Mills; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Jason “Big E” Eaves; a brother, Bobby Joe Smith; and a grandson, Charles Adam Smith.
