LISTENING AND LEARNING — Candie Moonshower, a children’s author and professor of college freshman and sophomore level English at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, was a guest author at both Ridgemont and South Fulton elementary schools as part of a special month-long reading camp funded by a specialized grant. Mrs. Moonshower is the author of “The Legend of Zoey,” a fictional tale of a 12-year-old girl who lived in the Reelfoot Lake region when the earthquakes of 1811-12 struck. Speaking to a small group of first- and second-graders at Ridgemont recently, Mrs. Moonshower showed the students how quickly and easily they could create characters, boosting the children’s reading and writing confidence.
