AND THE WINNER IS … — Pamela Crone of Union City, who took this photo of her husband, Chester Crone, with a Canon Powershot sx40, has has been selected as The Messenger’s May photo contest winner. Mrs. Crone said she was not aware her husband’s reflection had shown up so perfectly in the framed display showing the medals of Union City native Lt. Richard Clive “Tito” Lannom during a memorial service held for him in March until after the service. Lannom was a bombardier/navigator aboard a Navy A-6A when he disappeared March 1, 1968, over North Vietnam. His body was recovered Dec. 13, 2017, and identified on Sept. 25, 2018. Crone is commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4862 in Union City. He was among the members who helped post the colors during the updating of a Vietnam Memorial Monument at Discovery Park of America designating Lannom from Missing in Action to Killed in Action status. The Messenger is currently accepting entries for the June contest. The winning photo will be published on the front page the following month. To submit a photo for entry, email the image to with the subject line “Photo Contest.” Emailed images should be no smaller than five inches wide and 300 dpi for the best reproduction. Be sure to include the photographer’s name, address and daytime phone number, as well as where the photograph was made, what kind of camera it was taken with and a brief explanation of the photograph. The deadline for each contest month will be the last day of the month.
