‘SPECIAL’ SMILE — Special Olympics competitor Emily Richardson hugged Kiwanis Club member Joe Ward as she celebrated her success in the standing long jump during the Obion County games Saturday morning on the Union City High School campus. The annual games drew about 40 adults who participated in track and field events that included standing long jump, softball throw, javelin throw and race walks. Special Olympics offers year-round sports training and competition for children and adults who have intellectual disabilities. The Obion County games are sponsored by the Union City Kiwanis Club, with the local McDonald’s restaurant treating the competitors to lunch each year.
