Paul Hayes Smith, age 92, of Martin, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019 at St. Vincent’s Riverside Center in Jacksonville, Fla. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery in Martin with Murphy Funeral Home in Martin in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin at noon at the church until funeral time. Pallbearers will be Mike Stuart, Dr. Mike Hinds, Todd Lewis, Todd Hampton, Jason Almond and Mike Johnson.  Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Gutherie and Kenneth Chappell. He was retired from the University of Tennessee at Martin, was a member of First United Methodist Church in Martin where he loved attending Sunday school and loved playing softball on the men’s church league. Smith is survived by his wife of 72 years, Bertha Lou Lamb Smith of Martin; his daughter, Paula Lamb Smith Stoer of Micanopy, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Charles Benjamin Stoer and Jenna Elizabeth Stoer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie Smith and Ruth Bradberry Smith; and one brother, Dean Smith. Online tributes may be left at murphyfuneralhome.net.
