Jim Petty

Jim Max Petty, age 84, of the McConnell Community, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin with Rev. Brad Jordan officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sharon. Visitation will be between 5-8 p.m. Tuesday or after 10 a.m. until service time. He was the owner and operator of Joker Joe’s Fireworks and a member of Pleasant Valley Methodist Church. He was a United States Army veteran. Petty is survived by his wife, Martha McQuen Petty, of Martin; two daughters, Carrie (Chris) Turnage, of Mayfield, Ky. and Susanne (Tony) Smith of Dresden; two step daughters, Natalie (Richard) Voss of Gates and Jennifer Henry of Ripley; five grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Clark of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Hiveley Petty; a daughter, Sheryl Laster; and his parents, Raymond and Lilly Collins Petty. Online tributes may be left at
