Mary “Evonne” Toland Siemer, 84, of Memphis went to meet Jesus on Christmas Day 2018 while at Methodist Hospice Residence.
She was born Dec. 25, 1934, in Wood-land Mills.
She was preceded by her husband, G. Donald Siemer, who passed away on June 13, 2013; her parents, Ernest Aubrey Toland and Annie Petty Toland; and brothers, Aubrey Toland and Darris Toland.
She is survived by great-nieces, Dawn Slominski of Omaha, Neb., Holly Allen of Nebraska; and great-nephew, Miles Ruch Jr. of Aurora, Neb.; as well as 11 great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was a faithful Christian and member of Redeemer Baptist Fellowship — formally Cherokee Baptist Church — from 1965-2018, where she served in many areas including church clerk.
She was a member of Memphis Crime Stoppers, treasurer of Memphis Optimist Club, member of the Germantown Community Theater Guild, Women Missionary Union member, Mid-South Baptist Association committee member, Memphis City Beautiful commission, Executive Women International of Memphis member and she assisted in the yearly graduation of the Police Academy.
She was a graduate of Bethel College and held an Master of Business Administration from Vanderbilt University. She was a high school teacher for 10 years then worked at United Way for an additional 10 years.
She worked at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for 10 years as an executive assistant to the director until 1996. She had her own business doing fundraising for organizations.
She may not have had a lot of “blood family,” but she had a lot of family through her friends.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Redeemer Baptist Fellowship, followed by funeral services at noon. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Redeemer Baptist Fellowship or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
