James Mercer

Mr. James Louis Mercer, 89, a resident of Union City, died Saturday morning, Dec. 22, 2018, at his home.
Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday at White-Ranson Funeral Home. The Rev. Eddie Mallonee officiated. Burial followed in East View Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Logan Flood, Lucas Flood, Matthew Mercer, Austin Boyd, David Flood and Roger Woodward.
The family received friends from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Mercer was born on Sept. 21, 1929, in Linden, Tenn., son of the late Elmer and Jeane (Horner) Mercer. He married Polly Phillips on Nov. 27, 1958. She survives.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked as a maintenance supervisor in the garment industry.
He was a member of  Second Baptist Church, the Faith Sunday School Class and the Hickman Country Club.

Mr. Mercer is also survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rene and Jimmy Flood of Union City; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Marilyn Mercer of Memphis; five grandchildren and the spouses of three of them, Logan and Jessica Flood, Lucas and Destiny Flood, all of Union City, Matthew Mercer of Memphis, Jacob Mercer of Boston, Mass., and Katie and Austin Boyd of Memphis; a great-granddaughter, Baylor Grace Flood of Union City; and a sister, Jo Bowles of Trenton.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Eva Holmes.
